Tuck-pointing or “re-pointing” is the specialized technique of filling holes and washed out joints between bricks with new mortar, usually done for aesthetic and/or maintenance reasons. Tuck-pointing is often needed where masonry is most exposed to the harsh Canadian weather conditions. When water gets into these empty mortar joints it starts to deteriorate your brick, stone, and mortar.
Not only does tuck-pointing make the exterior much more aesthetically pleasing, it also serves a crucial functional purpose by preventing moisture penetration, controlling water damage, and increasing the overall stability of the masonry.
