A parge coat is a thin coating of mortar that is applied to concrete or a masonry substrate to help refine the aesthetic and hide imperfections. Although decorative, parging also helps to protect against rain, snow, and other inclement weather.
Typically, parging is done on concrete or cinder block foundations, but can be done on other masonry substrates as well in order to preserve and beautify. Parging can be a cementitious mortar or acrylic coating depending on the use, and can also be tinted or coloured.
Parging can be repaired if cracked or falling off, but some may have to be removed first if the damage is severe.
